Shawshank Redemption - A simple yet legendary movie

The Shawshank Redemption has been considered the greatest movie of all time. It has sat at the top of the IMDB list for many years, and honestly, no film can beat it. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman have delivered exceptional performances in this masterpiece. Directed by Frank Darabont and released in 1994, this film truly stood the test of time. This movie proves why a heartfelt movie can be successful without forcing any shenanigans into it.

This film revolves around Andy, a new convict, who was accused of killing his wife and his lover. He then meets a group who prisoners and bonds with them. With his intelligence, he even manages to impress the guards and higher-ups. He might act as an ideal prisoner, but there lies a legendary twist in the movie. At the very start of the movie, he asks for a small shovel and a poster of his favorite actress in his cell. Turns out, he has been digging a hole in the wall for almost two decades. This plot has been talked about for decades. The story was very simply put, and therefore, the twist was considered effective.

This may not be a lesson to take from the movie, but it beautifully depicts how friendships can make your life better in prison, too. They mock each other and support each other in hard times. However, it also depicts the harsh reality of what prison is, as half of the human rights are waived off as you enter the penitentiary. If you are in the good eyes of the warden, you will be safe, but if you are a rebel, you might not even survive for long. Andy goes through the same fate. But finally escapes. His dear friend Ellis was also released a few years later, and the movie ends with them reuniting.
