Requiem for the Dreams

Requiem for a Dream is an American psychological drama that was released in 2000. A requiem is a ritual performed during Christian funerals. The movie revolves around four people. Harry Goldfarb is a drug distributor along with his friend Tyrone. His mother, Sara, knew about his substance addiction issues but kept her mouth shut as he was her only child. Harry's girlfriend, Marion, was also a drug user. The movie shows how their life changed due to addiction.

As referred to in the name, all four characters have dreams. Some big, some small. Harry was determined to get out of the current puddle he was in. He was aware that only one aware how the addiction was holding him back. He loved his mother and girlfriend and mother more than anything and wanted to provide a better life for them. But addiction never left him. Marion had dreamt of becoming a fashion influencer. The two had plans to open a store in the future.

Tyrone was one of the most addicted to drugs. While he had no life other than distributing and inhaling drugs. He had a small dream to make his mother proud by making it big in life. Sara had a lonely life as her husband died, and Harry was mostly away for a long time. She had her friends to chat with. She also spent most of her time watching TV and wanted to appear at least once in her life.

Sara once got a call that took her too close to the sun. She was told that she was chosen to appear on TV. However, it is still not known that if the call was a scam or a legit offer. She even picked out a beautiful old dress. But to fit in, she would have to lose some weight. She failed at natural weight loss and then started taking pills from the doctor. However, they were addictive, similar to drugs.

Meanwhile, Tyrone, Harry, and Marion were trying to expand their drug empire by introducing a new drug in the market. Amidst all the chaos, Harry visited Sara and begged her to stop taking the diet pills, as he was well aware of the side effects. This was a crucial scene in the story as he insisted it, but she didn't listen. After leaving the house, he cried his heart out as he knew things were going to be bad for her. He realized that he was often on the other side of the conversation and how it felt when someone poured their heart out.

In the drug business, the substance was stopped from being distributed due to internal politics. Drugs were off the road as police were monitoring every situation closely. Marion was the one adversely affected as she couldn't control her temptations. Meanwhile, Harry had a severe infection on his hand, which he ignored initially. Sara's addiction to the pills affected her mentally, which led to hallucinations. Tyrone ran after making more money through drugs, which kept him away from her mother's dreams.

In the end, all four lives ended miserably. Marion ended up being a prostitute, Harry had to amputate his hand and knew he had lost everything, Tyrone was sentenced to jail after getting caught, and Sara was admitted to a mental institution. The movie shows how a mere addiction can ruin lives. They dug a hole for their own and had to say goodbye to their dreams. The movie sends a strong message that dreams are mere hallucinations when an individual in under influence.

The Paper : The Office reboot

The Office turned out to be a major hit than anyone could ever imagine. Michael Scott, Jim Halpert, Dwight Schrute, and other office staff together created magic. Unfortunately, the sitcom ended on a low note as Michael, played by Steve Carell, wasn't part of the show during the last two seasons. However, the creators are back to create another masterpiece.

The Paper, another mockumentary, will start airing on Peacock in just a few days. This is an Office spinoff, where they innovate paper. The teaser reveals that it contains that the new series contains the same goofy characters and the same nonsensical topics. It seems that while they will be changing their business but the amount of la
ughs for the audience may remain the same.

The most interesting question the audience may have right now is whether the sitcom will remain edgy enough or at all. Fans still enjoy The Office because no modern-day series can match the amount of offensiveness Michael Scott had. Audiences have been craving for the similar type of sarcasm for years.

Also, they have bought back Oscar Martinez in the spinoff. In the little teaser, he expressed frustration towards the documentary crew as the previous time they were filming him, his life was turned upside down. There are many ways the series could be failed but if perfectly produced, fans could get a great modern day sitcom.

Stranger Things - Is it worth watching?

Stranger Things is world world-famous drama series streaming on Netflix. Its first season aired in 2016, and its final season will be released later this year. While the majority of the audience has seen the four seasons, several audience members wonder if the series is worth watching.

Millie Bobby Brown plays Eleven. She is introduced as an outside entity. She finds a group of friends and latches onto them. They save her from the outside world. Eventually, trouble starts to get in her way. The unknown world, Upside Down, tries to take over our universe, too, but several citizens of Hawkins somehow save it every time.  The thrill, suspense, mystery, emotions, everything is packed in this drama series.

Eleven got her powers when her mother was undergoing experiments. After her birth, she was trained in a lab against her will. While she learnt the powers for evil stuff, she ran away from the laboratory and preferred to use them for good. Jim Hopper, portrayed by David Harbour, plays an important role in hiding Eleven from Martin Brenner. She is her biological father, and Eleven refers to her as Papa. While she showed great affection towards her, he was determined to get her back in the lab for selfish purposes.

Things got intense in the fourth season as Jim Hopper was stuck in a Russian prison while stopping the creatures from the Upside Down from entering the normal world. Also, number one is introduced in the same season. He was the first subject of Dr. Martin. He came back to destroy Eleven by dominating her mentally. In the end, she defeated Vecna, but the season ended in a major cliffhanger.

The entire Hawkins was about to be captured by the Upside Down. Fans cannot wait to see what will happen in the final season of the thrilling sci-fi series.

Se7en

Se7en is a mystery psychological thriller that sends chills down your spine every minute. You move the edge of the seat at every instance, and in the end, you fall off it, as one cannot stand the sheer pain during the climax. The entire film depicts how the human mind has become used to corruption and crime, how people don't care about injustice, and how everyone has stopped empathizing with each other's problems. The movie is primarily based on the seven sins. It involves Pride, Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth, Lust, and Envy. These deadly sins have become a part of this generation's life.

Two detectives come across a disastrous case of serial murders. While one officer named Lt. William Somerset, has years of experience, David Mills was recently transferred to another branch with his wife. The two stumble upon cruel murders, each leaving a clue of the six deadly sins. The murderer, John Doe, was depicted as extremely clever, leaving only clues he wanted the detectives to see. No fingerprints, no alibi, nothing. The only thing they discovered was that all the victims were involved in some kind of sin. The two officers were close to catching him, but he managed to slip away.

Whilst their investigation, William and David's wives conversed about moving to a new place. Also, she let the senior detective in on a little secret. She was pregnant, but David was still unaware of it as she didn't want him to think about anything.

Shockingly, after six crimes, he surrenders himself. The only sin he had left was wrath, which means anger. He was interrogated, but the detectives didn't get clear answers. However, he talked about how the entire world is full of corruption and everyone plays a part in it.

During the climax, John Doe lures the two officers into taking him to a strange place, and also forces them to believe that no police officers will follow them. Just three of them, weighing for an unknown package. Initially, David wanted to kill the Doe, but that would mean following in his footsteps. He stood by his ethics and controlled himself despite being provoked by him.

As the package arrived, Somerset opened it far away as David and John stood together. The senior detective was too shocked to speak and instantly ran to take away the gun from David's head as he was worried he might do anything irrational. Then came the infamous Brad Pitt dialogue, "What's In The Box!" As William stood still, Mills realized that the box had his wife's head. A few moments later, John reveals that there was a baby on the way.

Brad Pitt delivered an incredible performance. He realized, he grieved, he accepted, and lastly, he killed John Doe. While the murderer died, he actually won, as he successfully demonstrated the final act of wrath. David Mills couldn't control his anger. In the end, he is arrested for murder.

Shawshank Redemption - A simple yet legendary movie

The Shawshank Redemption has been considered the greatest movie of all time. It has sat at the top of the IMDB list for many years, and honestly, no film can beat it. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman have delivered exceptional performances in this masterpiece. Directed by Frank Darabont and released in 1994, this film truly stood the test of time. This movie proves why a heartfelt movie can be successful without forcing any shenanigans into it.

This film revolves around Andy, a new convict, who was accused of killing his wife and his lover. He then meets a group who prisoners and bonds with them. With his intelligence, he even manages to impress the guards and higher-ups. He might act as an ideal prisoner, but there lies a legendary twist in the movie. At the very start of the movie, he asks for a small shovel and a poster of his favorite actress in his cell. Turns out, he has been digging a hole in the wall for almost two decades. This plot has been talked about for decades. The story was very simply put, and therefore, the twist was considered effective.

This may not be a lesson to take from the movie, but it beautifully depicts how friendships can make your life better in prison, too. They mock each other and support each other in hard times. However, it also depicts the harsh reality of what prison is, as half of the human rights are waived off as you enter the penitentiary. If you are in the good eyes of the warden, you will be safe, but if you are a rebel, you might not even survive for long. Andy goes through the same fate. But finally escapes. His dear friend Ellis was also released a few years later, and the movie ends with them reuniting.

Pluribus - Analyzing the new sneak peak

Pluribus has created a lot of buzz in the entertainment industry just days after announcing the project. Vince Gilligan has already proved his powerful screenwriting in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. And fans aren't expecting any less from him this time. The concept of the show itself makes you wonder about the endless possibilities it can turn into. It is about the most miserable person on Earth trying to wipe out the disease called happiness.

Rhea Seehorn, Better Call Saul's impactful star, will lead the series. The series is set to air from November 7th and will continue to air the rest of the shows until December. Unsurprisingly, the show is already renewed for season 2. So far, Apple TV has just released information about the new television drama.

Fans have been waiting to get more glimpse of the show since it was announced. Fortunately, Pluribus has made its future fans happy by releasing a sneak peek of the series. The short 26-second teaser raises more questions than it answers the questions. It also features Rhea Seehorn. We can predict by watching the trailer that the fan-favorite star will be suffering a lot in the series.

The clip shows a very tense Carol (Rhea's character) walking worried and tense. As she approaches, we can see blood on her clothes. The thing which is worth noting is that Carol isn't aware of the blood until the end of the clip. Meaning, she wasn't in her right mind. This opens up so many possibilities. Was she hypnotized? Is she depressed? Is she being blackmailed for something? Despite watching the blood, she wasn't shocked.

As she walks, it seems like someone is communicating with her, as we see texts in the teaser. It seems friendly, at least in the clip. It says, "Hey, Carol. We'll put things right. Sorry about the blood." And then a mobile number (202) 808 3981 appears on the screen. The official tweet from Apple TV's X handle gives us more insight into the unknown entity. It wants Carol to join them. Fans are now waiting for the official trailer of the series.

Modern Family - A ludicrous yet valuable sitcom

Modern Family has been one of the best and funniest modern-day sitcoms. It is the closest situational comedies that come near classics like The Office and Friends. The series consists of three blood-related families, and every member with a unique and dominating personality. Phil and Claire Dunphy lead the series with their three children. Phil is a father who doesn't care about tomorrow and lives in the present. Contrary to that, his wife has been worrying about their abstract children, Haley, Axel, and Luke.

Claire's brother, Mitchel, is homosexual and is married to Cameron. The duo also doesn't resemble each other. While Mitchel is sophisticated, Cam never fails to show his colorful thinking and approach towards everything. Mitchel and Claire's father, Jay, is married to a Colombian woman, Gloria. This is Jay's second marriage.

Phil Dunphy's philosophies keep you hooked to the series throughout the series. His quirky yet innocent jokes will make you his fan from day one. His character stands out a bit, but no other character is given less thought than the others remaining. The character writing and its details are what made the series special. A harsh personality like Jay wouldn't tolerate anyone but his French Bulldog, Stella. His wife and son Manny try to stand against his ethics occasionally, but never against him.

Haley creates havoc many times in their family, mostly when her dim-witted boyfriend Dylan hangs out with them. While Claire tries his best to keep him away from her daughter, Phil's instant connection with Dylan makes sure he doesn't go far away. As the series develops, we can feel every bond get stronger and stronger.

Modern Family also deals with real-life problems that are rarely portrayed on-screen, but we often encounter in real life. Some funny, some may make you think about your life decisions. The series also focuses on social issues. Alex, an intelligent yet rebellious kid, fails to get along with other kids. Throughout the seasons, we see her conquer her setbacks. The sitcom shows, no matter the issue, family matters the most, and every problem seems small when we stick together.

Friends - Why is the sitcom polarizing?

Friends is probably one of the most popular sitcoms in today's world. Famous characters, catchy dialogues, and funny gags spread out throughout the series, and almost every component is perfectly balanced in the sitcom. While the series is held close to heart by the majority of the fans, many of the audience, who are actually sitcom fans, seem to hate the popular series.

The American TV series is based around Chandler Bing, Joey Tribbiani, Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, and Ross Geller. The six people live in two apartments across each other's halls. They help each other through tough times, but not before having a big laugh. The entire series portrays what a group of friends looks like.

However, there are certain things that some may consider over the line. First of all, a good bunch of people are the laughing track that plays throughout the episodes. 'We get it was a joke, let us do the laughing,' many viewers said out of exasperation. While this may not seem a major issue, many are actually irritated by the constant tracking and have stopped watching the show midway.

Second, the show is full of overreactions. It seemed special at first, fans got a good laugh, but it became pestered as more and more episodes went by. And the overreactions only got bigger and bigger with time. But this doesn't take anything away from the brilliant writing and storytelling, and the characters are too relatable to hate.

Chandler, one of the most lovable characters you could find, but also awkward in completely ordinary situations. Then comes Monica, a very organized person, and also very dominant when things don't go her way. Rachel, a beautiful woman, who played with boys' hearts all her life, but grew up as responsibilities stood tall in front of her. Then comes Joey, who was fond of women, and didn't change himself when the situation begged him to. Phoebe Buffay is a character everybody can relate to. She acts the same way one would react when an individual is around their comfort people.

A series with strong character work, tangled love stories, and heart-wrenching and emotionally wrecking stories keeps you glued. One thing that remains constant is comedy. You may despise it, but you will never not laugh at the jokes. This lovely and lively sitcom will always stay in your head till you die.

Squid Games: Was the climax satisfactory?

Squid Game came on Netflix in 2021, and fans lost their minds. A never-before-seen concept took over the streaming platform. The Korean drama stayed in Netflix's Top 10 for almost 30 weeks. The series contains mindboggling twists and turns. It lasted over three seasons and never failed to create buzz on social media.

People actually felt related when the series was first introduced. Innocent people, having different issues, of which money was the root cause. A secret organization finds 456 people who are in desperate need of money and throws them together in a brutal competition. The game is organized by a bunch of businessmen who have all the money in the world. The sole survivor gets 45.6 billion. What's more interesting is that every player knows that their life is in danger. And are even allowed to leave the mid-game after collective voting.

However, money makes people blind, and many choose green fortune over life. The changing dynamics among groups, heartbreaks, and betrayals kept fans on the edge of their seats for the entire time. After many violent games and killings, player no. 456, Seong Gi-hun survives and wins 45.6 billion. But the game had totally changed him as he got to know how these evil billionaires used 456 players like pawns for their entertainment.

Therefore, he decides to enter the game again and save the lives of other players. Despite his advice, everyone decided to play the game for the lure of money. The major in the second season was that the Front Man, who arranges the ruthless games, also participated in them and supervised the action of Seong Gi-hun. While many of the players wanted to continue the game, several wanted to leave it. So Seong Gi-hun made a team and decided to attack the guards of the game. However, their plan backfired badly, and Player No. 456 and others were forced to return to the competition.  The third season was brutal to watch as the merciless billionaires even added a newborn baby in the game.

The Ending

As we reach the climax, we get to know that the Front Man was the winner of the previous Squid Game. Contrary to Seong, he didn't think before winning the game unethically. The Front Man had this weight on his shoulders for many years, and he advised Player No. 465 to do the same. However, the latter chose the right path.

In the climax, a few days old baby and Player No. 465 were left, and he had to choose who would be between himself and the baby. The nail-biting climax saw Seong sacrifice his life. Later, the Front Man demanded to blow up the entire island. No traces left.

There should have been more depth and action in the end. Many stories were left untold in the final of the series, which upset the majority of the audience. Instead, they teased American Squid Game in the post-credit scene, which enraged many more people.

About Time - Time Travelling cannot fix things

Many people believe time travel would be the perfect solution for everyone. However, the 2013 movie 'About Time' says otherwise. This story is of a lovely family who resides in Cornwall. Despite being lovely, the gents of the family had kept a secret for many decades. The movie is generally known as a rom-com, but is probably deeper than any other rom-com.

Tim Lake, a lawyer, learns about an astonishing truth about his family when he turns 21. His father told him that he can time travel. Tim was in search of a girlfriend, and due to his limited interaction with the outer world, it was difficult to find him one. After moving to London, he meets a girl named Mary. After a while, the two decide to marry, and the duo are blessed with a beautiful girl, Posy.

There is one major twist in the movie. If one decides to travel before their child is born, their child will not remain the same when they return from the past to the present.

Here is some evidence in the film that proves time travel cannot solve every crisis in the world, no matter how easy the problem may seem.

Evidence No. 1

Tim Lake had a chance to explore love when his sister's friend Charlotte stayed at Cornwall throughout the summer. He kept his distance from her until the end of the holidays and approached Charlotte on the very night of her in the house. She then clarified that expressing feelings last night won't work, and things could have been better if he had talked about his feelings earlier.

So, using his time-travelling powers, he went back in time and decided to spill his heart out, once again. She then said that he should have approached her last night of the summer. Her answer this time made it clear that no matter what the occasion was, Charlotte was never going to move forward with Tim. Time didn't matter.

Evidence No. 2

Tim's sister, Katherine, was involved in an abusive marriage. Things got serious on Posy's first birthday. She was involved in a major accident after having a fight with her husband. So, he decided to go back in time and fix things. Mary inadvertently warned him that only Katherine can fix herself. However, he still persisted with his purpose of giving his sister a good life. He went back and avoided her first meeting with his future husband.

But there was just a major issue, when he returned, he saw that he had a boy instead of a girl. He then decides to make things normal and bring back Posy as her daughter. Listening to his wife's advice, Tim and Mary convince Katherine to improve her life and choose a better partner.

Evidence No. 3

Tim and Mary were living a happy life with their two children. However, Tim's father was diagnosed with cancer due to his smoking in his early 30s. The father and son discussed whether time travel could cure his health. Meaning, they would have to go back before Tim was back and prevent smoking. This would also mean that Tim would no longer exist.

After a few weeks, his father passed away. Despite his death, Tim would travel back in time to meet his father. One day, Mary requested to have a third baby, which would mean the two couldn't meet after the baby was born. This proves that the only thing immortal is the memory of a person, not the person. No matter which power you have.

This movie would change the perspective how you view the world. It makes you think the things you worry about are actually very small. Time is moving fast, and even time-travelling cannot slow it down. So, use it wisely and happily.
